How do I use Spell Check for my notes?

One of the powerful features of Outliner 4.0 is Passive Spell Checking (including comprehensive legal terms spell checking) similar to popular word processors like Microsoft Word.  This means that a spell check is performed as you type - all misspelled words are highlighted by a wavy colored underline.  You can use the right mouse button to get a pop-up menu of suggested replacements, ignore the word, or add it to your custom dictionary.

All outlines and case reports created using Outliner 4.0 software generate in ".rtf" format.  This generic format ensures that the outline or case report will open in your default word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word or WordPerfect).  The outline or case report will open automatically in your default word processor so that you can edit and customize the finished product however you like.

How do I backup to a CD-R/CD-RW?

If you attempt to backup your Outliner 4.0 data directly to a CD-R/RW you may receive an error that the disk is either full or write protected.  You receive this error message because CD-R/RW are generally not formatted to write directly to.  The way to backup your data to a CD-R/RW is to backup your data to a drive like your hard drive, then "burn" the file to the CD-R/RW using whatever CD burning software you have installed on your computer.  This is a limitation of CD-R/RW technology and not a limitation of Outliner 4.0.

The reason why there is a 2 step process is because CD-R/RW are generally not formatted to act like a floppy disk.  Buying a CD-R is similar to purchasing an unformatted floppy disk.  In order to write to the floppy disk, it must be formatted.  Similarly, you can format a CD-R/RW using your CD burning software to act like a floppy disk and backup directly to it.  Generally, however, people do not format their CD-R/RW because they want to use the disk on multiple types of machines.  This is why CD burning software is used to "burn" the file to the disk.  So, if you format the CD-R/RW to act like a floppy then you will be able to backup to the CD-R/RW directly.  Otherwise, you will need to backup to your hard drive and then "burn" the backup file to the CD-R/RW.
